Almost all of the information you need to work on a crime problem can be found online, but it is scattered throughout various web sites. The UJC Crime Prevention Resource Center will connect you to the right information quickly.

2. What steps should I follow?
We have identified -- areas of information related to crime prevention divided into 5 subject categories: ----. Search these categories for website link that seems most likely to have the information you seek.

3. How reliable is this information?
We have chosen sites that are sponsored by government law enforcement agencies or professional and highly regarded organizations. While we cannot be held responsible for the accuracy of all information presented on these web sites, we are confident that the information presented on these web sites was prepared by reliable and professional sources.

4. There are so many different sites, where do I begin?
First click on the most relevant topic on the home page. You will be sent to a page that lists websites that address those crime-related problems and describes what kind of information you will find and how it may be useful.

5. How about an example of a question, problem and successful search?
Example: you or someone you know was the victim of a crime. You want to see if you are eligible for a State grant, how much it is and how to get an application. If you go to Grants and Victim Compensation, and click on the web page of the New York State Crime Victims Board, you can download and print the application form/instructions for compensation. If you want help with filling out the application, the link for Safe Horizons on the same page gives you a list of neighborhood offices with staff that can help.

6. What happens if I can't find the information I need?
We also recommend trying your on independent search at a large search engine such as www.google.com. Type in the words most likely associated with your query. If you don't find what you are looking for, type in a slightly different combination of words. Different word combinations can make a big difference to the search engine.

7. I need help learning how to use the computer and how to conduct online searches. Is there an organization that offers this for free?
The United Jewish Council Community Learning Center, located at 15-17 Willet Street, offers free instruction in how to use a computer and conduct an Internet search. It also offers free access to the Internet with three computer workstations. It is open Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 to 3:00. call 646-??? for an appointment. Most New York City branch libraries offer free help and use of their computers for Internet searches.
